Kurhaus and the Wiesbaden casino

The neoclassical magnificent building in the middle of Wiesbaden is the city's landmark and offers a unique location for events, seminars and many other possibilities thanks to its 12 magnificent and splendid halls and lounges.

As early as 1807, the first health resort was built in Wiesbaden, as gambling in particular brought guests to Wiesbaden. But in the course of the next century, Wiesbaden developed into an important spa town, so that architect Friedrich von Thiersch finally built a new spa house in 1907. During the Second World War, however, Wiesbaden suffered from the attacks and so did the Kurhaus. It was not until 1983 that a complete restoration could be started. This allows the symbiosis of historical façade and modern event technology. Particularly impressive is the foyer with its 21-metre-high dome, which is often used for unique exhibitions and receptions. In front of the spa house you will find the bowling green and the cascade fountains with three shells. Behind the spa house you will find the spa gardens with many native and exotic plants. >>> Here you can find more information about the spa park.

Since the complete refurbishment of the Kurhaus the Spielbank Wiesbaden is located in its premises. The casino is one of the oldest casinos in Germany and many aristocrats and artists have played here. Especially the writer Fyodor Dostoyevsky is known for having lost his entire fortune in Wiesbaden in 1865 and for writing his masterly novel "The Player" here.

Today you can try your luck at roulette, blackjack, poker and slots in the casino.²
